Seasonal Congestion Lasts 10 weeks

JackLakeCottage
I've been here awhile

Here at our cottage on Jack Lake in the Kawarthas we pay $82/mo for Rogers cellular Internet. For about a 10 week period from the third week in June until Labour Day and on long weekends it is effectively non-functional, with measured speed as low as 1 Mbps. Cannot stream anything reliably even on lowest video quality settings and at times even web sites are painfully slow to load.

Rogers says everything is working properly and that this is “seasonal congestion”.

Are you on Rogers 5G or Rogers "fixed wireless" (dish on roof)?

Xfinity Internet 25. Antenna on roof.

I had Xfinity 25 at my cottage near Gravenhurst and never had any slow down issues. I'm only 600m from the tower. I switched my cottage and home to 5G. My home is 10 km from the tower. Works great and much faster mbs down/up.

Speed isn’t the issue so much as the fact that it slows down to unworkable on long weekends and during vacation season. Is 5G also on the cellular network?

Your fixed wireless uses LTE technology. 5G uses very different technology and no outside antenna is needed. The price for me was the same. I'm going to try sending you a private message.

FYI - I just looked at the Rogers coverage map for Jack Lake and there is one small area that has very poor coverage. If you happen to be in that area it's not surprising you are getting poor seasonal coverage and unfortunately you may not be able to get 5G.

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the map and it looks like coverage is good for us. May be worth a try.
