Port forwarding mystery

LarryMenard
I've been here awhile

I’m trying to define a Port Forward (80) to a device (Windows 11 laptop) on my network using the Xfinity app on my phone. I select the device, enter the port number (80), leave the Protocol as both TCP/UDP, and tap Next. The app says the creation succeeded, and it shows me a screen with two rows of information: one is a link to the device I selected, and the other is “Reserved IP Address” (10.0.0.107).

But that IP address does not reflect the actual IP address of the device I selected (10.0.0.214)

I’m able to access the device directly using its LAN IP address (10.0.0.214), but not by my router’s current WAN IP address.

So it looks like the Port Forward is somehow getting the wrong IP address for the selected device.

I’ve tried rebooting everything involved. Also tried temporarily disabling “Advanced Security “. Even tried temporarily shutting down Windows Firewall. Nothing helps. The Port Forward still gets that wrong IP address.

How can I resolve this?

Thanks in advance.

And of course as soon as I posted that, it starts working again. All I did in the meantime is shut down the laptop again, Pause and Unpause the device, then start up the laptop again. It came up with a different IP address, and now when I create the Port Forward it comes up with the correct IP address, and I can now access my server via my WAN IP address.
