Wi-Fi calling email received by Rogers via e-mail

Pduby
I've been here awhile

I received an e-mail from Rogers, it stated that it had activated my Wi-Fi calling. Why would I be receiving such an email and why would Rogers have the ability to activate this feature remotely for me. This is not secure, it opens the phone up to unsecure networks. I don't understand why Rogers would send out and email like this. Anyone else receive an email stating this. Here is what it said in the email. WiFi Calling is now activated on your device. You are now able to make or receive phone calls and send SMS messages using any WiFi connection.
We have attached a copy of the WiFi Calling Terms and Conditions for your records.
For more information about using WiFi calling anywhere you have access to WiFi, visit rogers.com/wifiCallingFAQ.
Thank you for choosing Rogers. Is this a scam. Email came from donotreply@rci.rogers.com

WiFi Calling is a great feature to use when flying. In-flight WiFi will at the very least allow you to text. I have had a couple of calls that I answered during flights as well. Just because WiFi Calling is provisioned on your account for your line does not mean you have to use it. You can turn off the ability to connect calls over WiFi in your devices settings.

Not sure why you say it was provisioned, I always had this ability and I have used it in the past. My concern is the way the memo is they sent in where it says it was Activated that's a way different word than provisioned. It is telling me that the feature was turned on. This should not be the case. Rogers should not be turning on any cellphone features for me without my consent. On top of that it is very risky to have WiFi calling on, especially in flight as it is a public network. Hence this entire concept is not safe to be promoted if people don't understand the implications of wifi calling feature. Can you confirm that Rogers sent the email and that they are actually promoting the activation or provisioning of this feature to their clients.

Sometimes uodates enable features we had turned off. Like with the OneUI7 update for Samsung devices turning the power button into digital assistant key. Thankfully it wasn't too difficult to change back. I would recommend checking the settings on your device to make sure it is off, if you want ut iff, and make sure cellular preferred is also selected in connectiins.

Usually the only way the carrier can change features on your device is through their app, which normally has permissions to hel troubleshoot remotely. Things like APN settings and other minor features can be done through refreshing the carrier profile.
